060 469 7378Our team of skilled veterinary ophthalmologists uses advanced diagnostic tools and surgical techniques to address a variety of eye issues, from common ailments to complex conditions.
A standard consultation is about 30min in duration. Assessment of vision, ocular comfort, ocular discharge and a neuro-ophthalmic examination will be performed. The tear production and intraocular pressures will be measured. The periocular tissues, eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea and intraocular structures (iris and lens) will be examined with a slitlamp biomicroscope. The posterior segment will be assessed with an indirect ophthalmoscope to assess the fundus. Direct ophthalmoscopy with a panophthalmoscope might be added if needed.
Dr Christie Boucher completed her veterinary degree in 2000 at Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria. The travel bug called and she left for the United Kingdom where she worked for a number of years. It was here where she acquired an interest and love for ophthalmology and proceeded to complete a certificate of the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies in Ophthalmology. Back on South African soil she received the opportunity to follow her dream and study further in Ophthalmology at the University of Pretoria. She obtained her Honours degree in 2015 and qualified as a Veterinary Ophthalmology Specialist in 2017 when she obtained her Master’s degree. She has worked at the Johannesburg Animal Eye Hospital since 2016 before moving down to the Cape. In her spare time she enjoys running and cycling, when not running around after her kids.
