Dr. Charlie Boucher

Specialist Small Animal Surgeon | BSc, BVSc (Hons), MMedVet (Small Animal Surgery)

Dr Charlie Boucher graduated from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria in 2002. Shortly after qualifying he went abroad to the United Kingdom where he spent 10 years working as a veterinary surgeon in a first opinion practice. During this time, he obtained his general practitioner certificate in small animal surgery and was the practice director of as veterinary clinic in South-West London. In 2012 he returned to South Africa, to pursue a small animal surgical residency at Onderstepoort and graduated with his masters degree in small animal surgery in 2017. During his time at Onderstepoort, he was employed as a senior lecturer and in 2018 was elected head if the small animal surgery department. He enjoys all aspects of small animal surgery, but has a particular interest in orthopaedics and neurosurgery.

Dr. Frans van Heerden

Specialist Small Animal Surgeon | BVSc (Hons), MMedVet (Surg)

Dr Frans van Heerden graduated from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria in 2012. After qualifying he worked as a general veterinarian in Kimberley and Nelspruit, during which time he completed an honours degree in small animal surgery. He returned to Onderstepoort in 2016, subsequently completed a residency in small animal surgery and fulfilled the requirements for a master’s degree in small animal surgery in 2019. His interests in the field of surgery are always developing, and he currently enjoys minimally invasive and orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Brandan Janssens

Specialist Small Animal Surgeon | BVSc (Hons), DipECVS, Fellow Surgical Oncology

Dr. Brandan Janssens graduated from Onderstepoort in 2007. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Liverpool, followed by a fellowship in surgical oncology at Colorado State University (CSU) in 2017. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) and a recognized specialist in surgical oncology by both the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC). In late 2023, he relocated with his family back to South Africa to join the Vetscape team.

Dr. Christie Boucher

Specialist Ophthalmologist | BSc, BVSc (Hons), MMedVet (Opthal)

Dr Christie Boucher completed her veterinary degree in 2000 at Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria. After which she went abroad to the United Kingdom where she worked for a number of years. It was here where she acquired an interest and love for ophthalmology and proceeded to complete a certificate of the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies in Ophthalmology. Dr Christie has attended numerous international conferences and courses during her travels abroad. In 2012 she returned to South Africa and received the opportunity to follow her dream and study further in Ophthalmology at the University of Pretoria. She obtained her Honours degree in 2015 and qualified as a Specialist Veterinary Ophthalmologist in 2017. She has worked at the Johannesburg Animal Eye Hospital since 2016 before moving down to Cape Town in 2019.
